Bashundhara Group’s Swapan lifts gold in squash

Squash star of Bashundhara Group, Swapan Parvez grabbed the gold medal beating Raju Ram of American Club by 3-2 set in the final match of the Squash event of 8th Bangladesh Games at Gulshan Club on Friday.

Swapan thrashed Raju Ram in the first set by 11-6 points; whereas he faced little obstacles during the second set as he lost it by 11-9 points. However, he ensured his superiority by winning the third set with 11-5 points and bagged his first gold in Bangladesh Games. Raju Ram could not even stand in front of Parvez in the last set.

After claiming the gold medal, Swapan shared his triumph with Bashundhara Group,

“This gold medal is not solely mine; it is Bashundhara Group’s also. I’m dedicating this gold to Bashundhara Group.”

Bashundhara Group stands by tornado-hit people in B’baria

Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate of the country, stood by the family members of the victims who died in the recent tornado in Brahmanbaria district.

Each of the tornado-affected families of Akhaura, Bijaynagar and sadar upazila of the district has been given Tk 50,000 in cash and five bundles of corrugated iron sheets.

Bashundhara Group Chairman’s Chief Advisor Mahbub Morshed Hasan handed over cash money and corrugated iron sheets to each of 36 families at Bashudevpur union parishad office under sadar upazila.

Maynal Hossain Chowdhury, Bashundhara Group’s adviser (treasure) and publisher of three daily newspapers-daily sun, Daily Kaler Kantha and Bangladesh Protidin- of East West Media Group, was also present on the occasion. Bashudevpur UP chairman Nesar Uddin chaired the programme.

Brahmanbaria deputy commissioner Nur Mohammad Mazumder, police super Moniruzzaman, executive magistrate Zahirul Haque and Khairul Alam Sumon, upazila project implemetation officer Mizanur Rahman, Awami League district unit joint general secretary Taj Md. Yasin, district press club president Syed Mizanur Reza and general secretary Riaz Uddin Jami and advocate Mofak Khairul Islam were also present.

On March 22, a devastating cyclone hit Akhaura, Bijaynagar and Sadar upazila of the district, killing 36 people and injuring over 500 others. The tornado also damaged property, residential houses and other establishments.

As part of its continuous philanthropist and social welfare programmes,

Bashundhara Group has come forward to stand by the tornado-affected people.

Speaking at the programme, Mahbub Morshed Hasan said, “Bashundhara Group is carrying out social service alongside its business activities.

Maynal Hossain Chowdhury said, “Bashundhara Group chairman extended his helping hand to the tornado victims on information from newspapers.

DC Nur Mohammad Mazumder said Bashundhara Group is continuing their social welfare activities apart from contributing a lot to the national economy.

Police Super Moniruzzaman congratulated Bashundhara Group for contributing to the cyclone-affected people.

Rezia Begum of Zarultala village of sadar upazila, who lost her mother, a minor daughter and husband of her elder daughter, prayed for Bashundhara Group for the humanitarian aid.

Just after the cyclone, Bashundhara Group also provided humanitarian aid to the cyclone-affected families of the district.

Bashundhara Industrial Complex Ltd

Bashundhara Industrial Complex Limited (BICL) was established on the bank of river Pashur on an area measuring 10 acres in the Mongla Port Industrial Area to produce different types of Portland cement. It has an excellent communication facility connecting all parts of the country through river and roads. BICL has started its operation in 2003.
The industry enjoys a unique facility in cargo handling both in receiving raw materials and in dispatching finished products through its own jetty suitable for berthing sea going vessels. 75 persons work in this complex of which there are 11 officers and 64 staff and workers. It runs in three shifts.

The project was planned and subsequently taken up for quick implementation at the back of ever increasing demands of quality cement in the middle and southeastern region of the country. BICL owns and operates a clinker grinding plant having a production capacity of 0.42 million MT per annum.

Considering the aspect of environmental pollution usually created by cement manufacturing plants, BICL has been equipped with necessary preventive measures.

Since inception BICL is actively contributing to the national as well as global economy by way of effective utilization of resource using raw materials, producing high quality product at most competitive prices and creating employment opportunity. It continues its efforts to improve performance and increase contribution towards socio-economic development of this beloved country.
